Cincinnati United Soccer Club is proud to serve the different communities that come together to make one club.

Our communities are split by geography and, in some cases, ages.

CU Lakota Monroe, CU Sycamore Mason and CU Lebanon are separate until the U13 age group, but remain part of what we refer to as CU North. From U13-U19 they are collectively referred to only as CU North.

CU Southeast (or CUSE) includes all ages through U19.

CUP* Boys and CUP* Girls are also included as communities given we are all part of one larger club.

*Cincinnati United Premier.

Below are some FAQs on our communities and the different programs we offer, including CUP. Note that CU refers to "Cincinnati United" teams whilst CUP refers to "Cincinnati United Premier".

  • What is the difference between CU and CUP?

CU (U8-U19) provides each player the opportunity to play in their local community for a professional coach under a proven club-based player development plan. CU players train locally two times per week and compete in Cincinnati and Southwest Ohio based competitive leagues.

CUP (U11-U19) provides an opportunity for those players who seek an additional challenge with a pathway to compete at the regional and national level. Like CU players, CUP players train under the direction of a professional coach in a club-based player development structure, however, CUP players train three times per week at various locations throughout the Greater Cincinnati area and have access to the top state, regional and national leagues.

  • What is the difference between CU North and CU Southeast

The main difference is location and staff. We try to maintain as much consistency as possible between our communities and are all on the same development pathway.

  • How do I know if the CU U8-U12 program is right for me?

This program is designed for the player who is looking to play select soccer in a professionally trained, competitive environment. We recommend each player plays in their birth year and in one of our locally based community sites across the city.

  • How do I know if the CU U13-U19 programs are right for me?

This program is for the player that is looking for a competitive, professionally managed soccer experience. This program plays, trains, and competes out of our community sites. This CU program also meets the needs of the player that does not make CUP but wants to be continuously challenged, evaluated, and stay connected to CUP through club pass ‘guest training/playing’.

  • What is the typical training and match program for the different ages if you play for CU?

U8: Teams train 2 x 60 mins per week. They will participate in the Developmental League (DL) where they will play in a 5v5 format with rosters of 6-8 players per team. The DL has set days for matches on weekends with Girls playing on Saturdays and boys playing on Sundays each week throughout the season. Teams will also participate in one local tournament each season.

U9-U10: Teams train 2 x 75 mins per week. They will participate in the Cardinal Premier League (CPL) and The Premiere League (TPL) for competitive teams from Cincinnati and the Greater Cincinnati area. Teams will have 7-10 league games per season and will participate in 2-3 local tournaments per season. They will also have the option of playing in an out of town event.

U11-U12: Teams train 2 x 90 mins per week. They will participate in the CPL or Buckeye League for competitive teams from the Greater Cincinnati area and the wider region. Teams will have 7-10 league games per season and will participate in 2-3 tournaments per season. They will have the option of playing in an out of town events.

U13+: Teams train 2 x 90 mins per week. They will participate in the CPL, Buckeye League or Ohio State League for competitive teams from the Greater Cincinnati area and in some cases the whole state. Teams will have 7-10 league games per season and will participate in 2-3 tournaments per season. They will also have the option of playing in out of town events or college showcases

Note that everything above refers to Cincinnati United (CU) teams and should not be confused with Cincinnati United Premier (CUP).

  • What is the difference between CU Juniors and the other CU programs

CU Juniors is a youth soccer program that provides instruction to our youngest players (3-7 years old). This program is designed to be the developmental bridge from recreational soccer to competitive soccer. The professional trainers from Cincinnati United will provide age appropriate technical instruction and teach game behaviors to the very youngest players. This program is vital to the foundation of the Cincinnati United Soccer Club. The focus at these critical ages is to enhance and encourage individual skill development while establishing a love and passion for the game. As coaches and educators, we understand the importance of correct and relevant instruction at an early age, which will help foster success at an older age. The learning environment that we create will be positive and safe for these young players. This will aid in building confidence, self-esteem, and the love and passion for the game.

  • What makes CUP different

The purpose of our ‘Premier Program’ is to provide an educational and competitive environment that consistently produces the most mentally, physically, technically and tactically accomplished players in the State, Region and will also compete Nationally with select teams.

The program will be coached and managed by licensed professionals who will provide the elite soccer development experience for talented soccer players and athletes, consistent with age-appropriate expectations and commitment levels. Players will be developed to compete at the highest levels of play possible.

This program is referred to as Cincinnati United Premier (aka CUP). Learn more about CUP Boys or CUP Girls.

  • How do I know if the CUP program is for me?

The Premier Program is for any player that is very talented, serious about soccer, and wants to maximize the opportunity for the option to play at the highest level. Simply put, this program was developed specifically for the most talented players, coaches and directors.

  • Can players in the CUP Program participate in other sports?

Yes! Players can play other sports, although certainly the goal in the CUP Program is to create the best possible training environment for all players so attendance, communication and balancing player safety is vital.

  • Who is responsible for overseeing and managing the Competitive Program?

Our competitive programs are managed by our Directors of Coaching. See our Contact Us page.

  • How much does it cost to play for Cincinnati United?

Members pay two fees to play for the club.  The Club Fee covers fixed costs (coaches salaries, field rental) and is paid either lump sum or spread out over the course of the year.  Team Fees are specific to the individual team and cover variable costs (referee fees, tournament entry fees, league fees).  In addition, members must purchase the required uniform package for the designated age-group.

  • Does the club support ODP?

Absolutely, when events that do not conflict with club events. Permission may be granted from your Directors to allow ODP to be chosen over club events in some scenarios.

  • What happens when my kid goes to High School?

We are pleased that we have an alternative options for HS kids who want to keep playing soccer in the fall but (for whatever reason) are not going to be playing for their school. More info is available here.

  • Do you have options for a trapped 8th grader?

We typically offer a fall 8th grade team for those players who haven't started High School yet but who don't have a conventional Birth Year program available. We tend to form teams from all of our communities, including CUP, in order to facilitate the best environment possible. If you do not see a viable option in PlayMetrics then please use our Contact Us page to reach out to a staff member.

  • Are there other options outside of Juniors or joining a team?

Regardless of whether you are a current member or not, we offer year-round options to help players enhance their game.

For current members, this serves to supplement their development. For non-members, it's a great way to get a taste of what we can offer without a long-time or exclusive commitment. In short, anyone can try us out and then decide if we are the best fit for you!

We offer a wide range of these programs- camps, futsal, small group training, 3 v3, after school and more!

Contact Director of Business Operations, Andy Murison if you have questions or go here to learn more and find a program that works for you!

Regardless of the community you belong to, all current members can log into PlayMetrics to view their current team info, schedule and messaging options.
